Big Gift for Delhi Residents: CM Rekha Gupta Approves Four Projects; Munak Canal Set to Benefit Six Areas

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the revitalization of the Munak Canal and the construction of grand Chhath Ghats, marking a significant boost for millions of devotees from Eastern India. The project is expected to transform the canal into a symbol of faith, cleanliness, and modernity ahead of the next Chhath Puja. CM Gupta approved four major development projects as part of this initiative.

Reviving the Munak Canal
Once plagued by dirt and neglect, the Munak Canal is set for a complete makeover. The Chief Minister described the project as a “special gift” for devotees, promising that by the next Chhath festival, the area will be safe, clean, and aesthetically appealing. Devotees will be able to offer prayers to the Sun God in a secure and beautiful environment. This initiative is also expected to establish the area as a hub for religious and cultural activities.

Prominent attendees at the event included Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal, Delhi Cabinet Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, Wazirpur MLA Poonam Bhardwaj, BJP District President of Keshavpuram Ajay Khatana, and senior officials from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department.

Benefits for Six Areas
The development will benefit residents of Shalimar Bagh, Pitampura, Keshavpuram, Netaji Subhash Place, Punjabi Bagh, and Kohat Enclave. Once completed, the area is expected to attract over 30,000 visitors daily for recreation, social, and religious activities.

Infrastructure Upgrades
CM Gupta announced new roads alongside the canal and widening of the Singalpur bridge to enhance accessibility. An elevated road costing ₹5,000 crore will also be constructed from Inderlok Metro Station to UER-2, reducing traffic congestion for commuters traveling to Rohini and Outer Delhi.

“The initiative is not only about beautifying the canal but marks a historic step in the overall development of the area,” CM Gupta emphasized, assuring that the Delhi government is committed to completing long-pending projects for the public’s benefit.

Key Projects:

  1. Canal Beautification: Complete cleaning of the canal, removal of sludge and debris, installation of modern Chhath Ghats with steps, and development of green spaces and parks along the banks for religious and social activities.
  2. Service Roads: Construction of new service roads on both sides of the canal with paved streets, interlocking tiles, solar lighting, safe pedestrian pathways, and vehicle wheel guards to improve safety and mobility.
  3. Double-Lane Bridge: A new double-lane bridge near Singalpur will be built with steel and concrete technology, easing traffic between Pitampura and Shalimar Bagh and facilitating smoother access to the Outer Ring Road.
  4. Boundary Wall & Beautification: Installation of a precast RCC boundary wall along the canal from Outer Ring Road to Inderlok Metro, including landscaping, seating arrangements, lighting, and aesthetic enhancements, making the canal a major public attraction in Delhi.
