The Election Commission of India has released the draft voter lists for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR), approximately 9.5 million names have been removed from the electoral rolls across these states and the Union Territory.
Key Figures from the Draft Lists
- Andaman & Nicobar: Out of 3.10 lakh voters, around 64,000 names were excluded from the draft list.
- Kerala: More than 2.78 crore voters were on the rolls, of which 24.08 lakh names were removed.
- Chhattisgarh: Out of 2.12 crore registered voters, 27.34 lakh names were deleted. The SIR report revealed that 1,79,043 voters were registered at multiple locations, accounting for roughly 1% of the total voters.
- Madhya Pradesh: From 5.74 crore voters, 42.74 lakh names were removed from the draft list.
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Chhattisgarh stated that 87% of voters (1,84,95,920 out of 2,12,30,737) submitted their verification forms during the SIR process between November 4 and December 18, demonstrating high public participation in the revision.
Next Steps
The final voter lists will be published on February 14, 2026. Individuals whose names were removed from the draft list can still apply for inclusion, and the final decision will rest with the respective Voter Registration Officers.
This revision aims to clean the electoral rolls, remove duplicate entries, and ensure accuracy and transparency ahead of upcoming elections.
