Amit Shah Highlights Matua Community’s Contributions, Focuses on Spiritualism in Nadia Visit

Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Mayapur in Nadia district, West Bengal, emphasizing the spiritual and social contributions of the Matua community while consciously keeping aside any political discourse related to SIR (Special Investment Region).

Addressing a gathering during the 152nd birth anniversary of Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati, Shah highlighted the role of Matua social reformers like Harichand Thakur and his son Guruchand Thakur, describing them as a bridge between the Bhakti movement and modernity. He praised the community for promoting social welfare, fighting against untouchability, and advancing education and gender equality.

Shah emphasized that his visit was not in his capacity as Home Minister, but as a devotee of the 64 Gaudiya Math institutions across India and abroad. Speaking to the audience, he said, “Mayapur is the center of the Bhakti movement, and its influence will continue to grow. I am confident that India will emerge as a developed nation by 2047 and that the message of Sanatan Dharma will reach across the world.”

Highlighting the importance of the Matua community, Shah noted their efforts in social integration within the Hindu society. Sources indicated that the visit also aimed to strengthen the BJP’s ties with the influential Matua community in southern and western West Bengal ahead of the year-end elections. However, party officials clarified that the Home Minister intended to focus solely on unity and social service rather than political campaigning.
