Amid Bungalow Row, Lalu Family May Soon Shift to Mahua Bagh Residence

Patna: Pressure is mounting on Bihar’s former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Rabri Devi, to vacate her government bungalow. In response, the Lalu Prasad Yadav family is reportedly planning to shift to their under-construction private residence in the Mahua Bagh area of Danapur block, Patna.

On Saturday, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav personally visited the construction site with his security team to review the progress of the new home. Sources indicate that the family has instructed the builder to expedite completion.

Private Home Takes Priority Over Government Allotment

A senior aide close to Lalu Prasad hinted that the family may choose to move into their Danapur residence rather than the newly allotted government bungalow. Rabri Devi and her husband Lalu Prasad have been residing at 10, Circular Road for the past 20 years.

According to a recent order issued by the Building Construction Department, Rabri Devi has been allotted a new bungalow at 39, Harding Road, approximately 1.5 km from her current residence. The order, signed by Joint Secretary-cum-Property Officer Shiv Ranjan on 25 November, designates the new property specifically for the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council.

Allegations of Humiliation

A close RJD associate suggested that the move to shift into the private residence is motivated by a sense of being insulted. “If the government is so keen on allotting a new house for the Leader of Opposition, why not simply retain 10, Circular Road for her?” the aide questioned.

He added, “The couple has lived there for 20 years and deserves respect. We don’t understand the government’s problem with this.” The comments highlight the growing tension between the RJD leadership and the current state administration over the bungalow allotment issue.
