Political tensions in Rajasthan have escalated over allegations of OMR sheet manipulation and question paper leaks in recruitment examinations, with former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launching a sharp counterattack against Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. Gehlot asserted that targeting him with political accusations would not help deliver justice to the state’s youth.
Addressing the controversy on Thursday, the senior Congress leader accused the BJP-led state government of politicising serious issues related to recruitment examinations instead of addressing genuine concerns raised by aspirants.
‘Serious Issues Being Turned into Political Weapons’
Gehlot said the present government was using sensitive matters such as alleged exam irregularities as political tools. He clarified that, unlike the Chief Minister, he was not making baseless allegations but was raising concerns based on feedback received directly from students and youth organisations.
“The government must focus on ensuring fairness and transparency in recruitment processes rather than indulging in blame games,” he said.
Demand for Probe into 2024–25 Examinations
The former Chief Minister demanded a comprehensive and impartial investigation into all recruitment examinations conducted in 2024 and 2025. He pointed out that unusually rising cut-off marks had created suspicion among candidates, and the government owed clear answers to the youth.
Gehlot emphasised that restoring trust in the examination system was essential to safeguarding the future of lakhs of aspirants.
Controversy Triggered by CM’s Statement
The political row intensified after Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, while addressing a programme in Sirohi, alleged that OMR sheets in examinations conducted in 2019 were tampered with, and claimed that the trail of the alleged scam led to the former Chief Minister’s residence. He also raised questions regarding the role of the then Chief Minister’s personal security officer in the matter.
Gehlot Responds on Social Media
Reacting to the Chief Minister’s remarks, Gehlot took to social media platform X late at night, stating that he had not levelled any allegations against the current Chief Minister. He reiterated that personal attacks would not bring justice to unemployed youth and urged the government to take decisions with “a calm and responsible mindset.”
Call for Strict Punishment, SOG Action Continues
Gehlot said that if OMR sheet tampering was proven, those responsible should face the strictest punishment under laws enacted during the Congress government, including life imprisonment, a fine of up to ₹10 crore, confiscation of property, and complete transparency in recruitment examinations.
Meanwhile, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police has intensified its action in the case and recently arrested four individuals, including the technical head of the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, further fuelling the political debate.
