Akilesh Yadav Demands Strict Action in Codeine Cough Syrup Case: Says ‘Bulldozer Should Act Even on SP-Linked Individuals’

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akilesh Yadav has strongly criticized the Uttar Pradesh government over the Codeine Cough Syrup scandal, calling it not just a state-level crime but a matter linked to an international racket. Speaking on Saturday, Yadav alleged that the government is protecting its own people and defaming the opposition, misleading the public in the process. He asserted that if any person linked to the Samajwadi Party is found guilty in the investigation, action should be taken against them as well, including bulldozer action.

Accusations Against Government Handling
Akilesh Yadav accused the government of trying to frame the SP using selective visuals, claiming that the truth is being obscured. He referred to a dismissed police officer involved in the scandal, highlighting that the same individual had been accused in a gold robbery case in 2006. Yadav questioned why such individuals received protection for years despite their criminal background. He also alleged that children’s lives were jeopardized due to financial greed, while the government turned a blind eye.

Demand for High-Level, Fair Investigation
The SP chief emphasized that all mafia members, companies, and officials involved in the case should face strict action. He also stressed that since the network reportedly connects to the Prime Minister’s parliamentary constituency, a high-level and impartial investigation must be conducted. Criticizing both the Chief Minister and the central government, Yadav said, “When a state’s chief minister lies and the entire government supports him, it poses a serious threat to democracy.” He questioned how such a large drug racket could flourish undetected in an area linked to the Prime Minister’s constituency.

Scope of the Case
Akilesh Yadav claimed the scandal is far larger than initially reported, involving around 700 companies and an international network worth thousands of crores. He alleged that inter-official conflicts and nexus between authorities have only revealed parts of the truth. Referring to Akhilesh Dubey from Kanpur, he noted that Dubey’s life has been spared due to the SP’s consistent efforts, while the real culprits continue to evade justice.
