Bettiah, West Champaran: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his Samriddhi Yatra at Ramna Maidan, made a significant announcement regarding Bihar’s healthcare system. The CM declared that the state government will introduce a strict policy to prohibit private practice for government doctors, a move considered a major step towards improving public healthcare.
Addressing the gathering alongside Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Chaudhary, CM Nitish emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening Bihar’s healthcare infrastructure. He stated that providing accessible and quality medical services to citizens is the highest priority of his administration.
Focus on Modernized Healthcare Centers
The CM highlighted plans to gradually develop district and block-level hospitals into specialized medical centers, ensuring that patients suffering from serious illnesses no longer need to travel to bigger cities for treatment. He announced that hospitals will be equipped with modern medical equipment, specialist doctors, and essential resources.
Services in maternal and child health, cardiology, oncology, nephrology, and neurology will also be strengthened. Nitish Kumar noted that improving healthcare services will not only enhance treatment quality but also directly benefit people in rural and economically weaker regions.
Government Doctors to Devote Full Time to Public Service
In a bold declaration, the CM stated that government doctors’ private practice will be banned, ensuring their full attention and time are devoted to patients in public hospitals. He added that this step would improve service quality, availability, and transparency in government medical institutions.
Addressing a Longstanding Issue
Bihar has often faced complaints that government doctors prioritize their private clinics over public hospitals. If implemented as promised, this new policy could mark a significant shift in the state’s healthcare system, potentially ending private practice among government doctors and improving services across the state.
