Weather Update – January 13, 2026: Bitter Cold Grips North India, Rain Alert in 3 States

New Delhi: North India continues to reel under severe cold and dense fog, with temperatures plummeting close to freezing in several districts of Rajasthan and Haryana. Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are also experiencing harsh winter conditions.

The Meteorological Department has issued a rain warning for three northern states, adding to the chill. People have been advised to stay cautious as temperatures are expected to drop further. Additionally, a severe cold wave alert has been issued for 17 districts. In Delhi, temperatures may dip to 2°C, accompanied by winds blowing at 10–15 km/h in the morning.

Rain and Snow Alert in Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh

The Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall and snow over the coming week in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh.

  • Srinagar: Rain expected on January 18 with winds reaching 15–20 km/h.
  • Manali: Heavy snowfall and rainfall forecast for Thursday, with winds at 10–15 km/h.
  • Ladakh: Snowfall expected Friday through Sunday, with temperatures plunging to a minimum of -11°C.

Delhi-NCR Weather

The national capital region is currently facing extreme cold. Safdarjung recorded the lowest temperature in three years at 3.2°C, four degrees below the seasonal average. A weak western disturbance is expected to influence the region, and similar temperatures are likely until Wednesday, after which some relief may follow.

Uttar Pradesh

Most cities in Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience severe cold waves today. Districts including Deoria, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Azamgarh, Mainpuri, Agra, Mathura, Tundla, Muzaffarnagar, and Gautam Buddh Nagar may witness gusty cold winds at 5–10 km/h in the morning. In Lucknow, the maximum temperature will reach 17°C, while the minimum will be 8°C. Motorists are advised to drive carefully.

Rajasthan

Severe cold persists across Rajasthan, with temperatures dropping below freezing in several areas. Fatehpur recorded a minimum of -0.4°C last night, while Loonkaransar saw -0.4°C, Churu 1.3°C, Shri Ganganagar 1.4°C, Karauli and Pilani 1.5°C, Sikar 2.0°C, Nagaur 2.4°C, Jaisalmer 2.5°C, Dausa 2.6°C, and Sirohi 3.9°C. Dense fog and frost were observed across the state, and the cold wave is expected to continue.

Punjab and Haryana

Severe cold has gripped Gurugram in Haryana and Bathinda in Punjab, where night temperatures fell to 0.6°C. The Meteorological Department warns of cold waves and frost in some areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Recent minimum temperatures include Narnaul 1.2°C, Bhiwani 1.5°C, Hisar 2.6°C, Karnal 3.5°C, Ambala 4.5°C, and Rohtak 3.2°C.
