As February enters its final phase, the country is experiencing the tail end of winter chill. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 10 states, accompanied by the possibility of storms with wind speeds reaching up to 55 km/h. The gusty winds may cause a significant drop in temperature. Additionally, lightning and thunder are expected in affected areas. Citizens are advised to exercise caution, especially in hilly regions.
States Under Heavy Rainfall Alert
From February 22 to 24, the following states are expected to receive heavy rainfall: Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana.
- Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh – Heavy rains likely in select districts on February 22–23.
- Uttarakhand – Rainfall expected from February 22–24 in areas including Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Chamoli, Almora, and Nainital, with winds up to 40 km/h.
- Tamil Nadu & Kerala – Heavy rainfall forecasted on February 22.
- Karnataka (coastal & northern regions) – Rain accompanied by thunderstorms from February 22–24.
- Chhattisgarh & Odisha – Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected on February 23–24. Fishermen are advised to remain cautious and stay away from the coast.
City-Wise Weather Forecast
Delhi: Clear skies with a maximum of 28°C and minimum of 14°C. No rain is expected, though light to moderate fog may occur in the morning and evening. Air quality is expected to improve, with AQI dropping below 120.
Uttar Pradesh: No rain expected. Dense fog may affect morning travel in districts including Deoria, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Ballia, Mirzapur, Gonda, and Bahraich. Maximum temperature in Kanpur and Lucknow: 29°C, minimum: 14–15°C.
Bihar: Mostly dry with some fog and cold in districts such as Patna plains, Gaya, Jehanabad, East Champaran, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Saharsa, Purnia, Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria, and Khagaria. Maximum in Patna: 29°C, minimum: 16°C.
Himachal Pradesh: Weather to deteriorate with heavy rainfall in districts including Shimla, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Solan. Snowfall expected in higher-altitude areas of Manali, where temperatures will range from –10°C to 0°C.
Madhya Pradesh: Rainfall expected over the next three days in districts including Bhopal, Ratlam, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Katni, Neemuch, Khandwa, Khargone, and Seoni. Bhopal’s forecast: Max 31°C, Min 17°C.
Rajasthan: Mostly dry with rising temperatures in Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Bharatpur, Barmer, Alwar, Jaisalmer, and Udaipur. Jaipur: Max 28°C, Min 16°C.
Jammu & Kashmir: Rain expected on February 22–23 in Srinagar, Jammu, Banihal, Doda, Ramban, Kupwara, Kulgam, Pahalgam, Shopian, and Bandipora. Snowfall possible in higher-altitude areas.
Tamil Nadu: Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely in Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, and Theni. Chennai forecast: Max 29°C, Min 23°C.
Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Karnataka, and Telangana: Expected to witness heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next three days.
