Weather Update: 31 January 2026 – Rain and Snow Alert in 8 States, Cold Wave to Intensify Till 3 February; Delhi-NCR to See Temperature Drop

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts indicating major weather changes across northern India in the coming days. According to forecasts, several states can expect rain and snowfall until 3 February.

Western Disturbance Brings Snow and Rain

On the last day of January, the Western Disturbance is expected to significantly impact the weather in North India. The IMD has issued warnings of rain and snowfall in multiple states. Two weather systems forming over the western Himalayas are likely to bring light to moderate rainfall and occasional snow from 31 January to 3 February.

The western Himalayas have already seen increased cloud cover due to the approaching system. Heavy snowfall is expected in Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, with strong winds reaching 30–40 km/h in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The inclement weather is also likely to affect northwestern states, including Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar, where rainfall is predicted.

In Rajasthan, hail is expected in some districts. The IMD has issued a warning for western Rajasthan on 31 January and for eastern Rajasthan on 1 February.

Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast

Delhi-NCR will experience changing weather, with rain, thunderstorms, and strong surface winds predicted on 31 January and 1 February. Minimum temperatures are expected to drop, increasing the cold’s intensity. On 31 January, the day will start with moderate to dense fog, while evening and night are likely to see thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. The maximum temperature is forecast at 20°C and minimum at 7°C. On 1 February, a similar pattern of rain and strong winds is expected, with temperatures ranging between 18°C (max) and 12°C (min).

Uttar Pradesh Weather Forecast

Several districts in Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience dense fog on 31 January. Rainfall is likely to begin on 1 February and continue for the next two to three days, leading to a further drop in temperatures.

Uttarakhand Weather Forecast

In the hilly regions of Uttarakhand, the IMD has issued alerts for light rain along with snowfall. On 31 January, light rain is expected in Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Chamoli. On 1 February, these areas may experience light to moderate rainfall. Snowfall is predicted in regions above 3,000 meters.
