Weather Update 21 January: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Forecast in 10 States; Winds Up to 60 km/h – IMD Advisory

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of heavy rain and strong winds in 10 states over the next 24 hours, raising concerns of an intensifying cold wave across northern India. Dense fog is expected to disrupt travel in 26 districts, while hilly regions will witness heavy snowfall.

• Northern India: From 22–24 January, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, western Rajasthan, and western Uttar Pradesh are likely to experience thunderstorms with winds reaching 30–50 km/h. Eastern Uttar Pradesh will see similar conditions on 24 January.
• Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh: Light to moderate rain is expected on 21 January, with heavy rain and snowfall forecast in the western Himalayas from 22–26 January.

• Bihar: Winds of 40 km/h may worsen the cold wave in Gaya, Jehanabad, Saran, Siwan, Buxar, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Araria, Katihar, Kishanganj, and Khagaria. Patna will see a max of 21°C and min of 12°C.
• Uttarakhand & Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rain and snowfall predicted from 23–25 January; temperatures may drop by 2–3°C. Manali expected at -1°C max, -16°C min.
• Jammu & Kashmir: Western disturbances from 22–24 Jan and 26–28 Jan may bring rain and winds of 40–50 km/h. Srinagar: 7°C max, -2°C min.
• Rajasthan: Light to moderate rain expected in parts of Jodhpur, Shekhawati, Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Ajmer between 22–23 January.
• Madhya Pradesh: Cold wave warnings in Shahdol, Khajuraho, Satna, Rewa, and Chhatarpur; Bhopal: 23°C max, 12°C min.
