
A severe cold wave continues to grip northern, central, and eastern India, with temperatures dropping below 5°C in several areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings that the cold wave will persist until 14 December. Dense fog is expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh on 12 December, while light rainfall and snowfall are forecast over the hills from 13–17 December.
Northern, Central & Eastern India to Experience Severe Cold
Western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Maharashtra are witnessing chilly conditions, with some areas recording temperatures below 5°C. Adampur in Punjab recorded the lowest plains temperature of 4°C.
The IMD has warned of very dense fog in Uttar Pradesh today. Dense fog is also likely over Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Assam, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from 12–16 December, with visibility dropping to 0–50 meters in some places.
Rainfall and Snowfall Forecast in Hills
From 13–17 December, a new western disturbance is expected to trigger light rainfall and snowfall over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Snowfall is likely in regions above 3,500 meters, while valleys may experience light fog and mist.

Delhi will experience partly cloudy skies with morning fog and night-time mist. Temperatures have varied in December, with a minimum of 8°C recorded recently.
Uttar Pradesh Weather
The IMD has issued a dense fog alert for Uttar Pradesh, with cold conditions likely to intensify in the coming days. The weather is expected to remain dry, with light to moderate fog in the mornings, especially over the eastern Terai region.
Bihar Weather
Western disturbances combined with winds at 20 km/h have intensified cold conditions in Bihar. Minimum temperatures in several districts have dropped to 8°C, with dense morning fog in Patna, Purnia, Begusarai, Rohtas, and Bhagalpur. The state is expected to remain dry for the coming week, though light to moderate fog may persist in some areas during mornings.
Uttarakhand Weather
The weather in the hilly regions of Uttarakhand will remain mostly dry, with light fog in valleys. On 14 December, districts including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh may witness light rainfall and snowfall at higher altitudes above 3,500 meters.
