New Delhi: Cold conditions continue to intensify across various parts of India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for cold waves in North and Central India. Over the next two days, cold waves are expected to affect regions from Punjab and Haryana to Odisha.
Weather Conditions Across the Country
The chill is becoming more severe across the country, with the effects of snowfall in the mountains clearly visible in the plains. From Delhi-NCR to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, the mercury is steadily dropping. Along with the cold, dense fog and cold waves are adding to the discomfort of people. On Tuesday, the IMD issued a cold wave warning for several parts of North and Central India.
IMD’s Forecast
The cold wave warning comes at a time when parts of the northern and Himalayan states are already experiencing severe cold. The temperatures in many areas have reached new lows. According to the IMD’s weather bulletin, cold wave conditions are highly likely to occur from January 7 to 9 in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Odisha. The cold wave will also affect Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh this week.
On January 7, the IMD predicts “cold day conditions” for Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, Delhi, western Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Sikkim are expected to experience colder-than-usual weather for the next two days.
Dense Fog Along with Cold Wave
The IMD also predicts dense fog along with the cold wave for the next 5-7 days in parts of north-western, central, eastern, and northeastern India. According to the weather bulletin, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh are likely to experience very dense fog during the morning hours from January 7 to 9.
Moreover, dense fog is expected to persist in some areas for the next four days. Officials from the IMD revealed that in Jharkhand, where a cold wave alert has been issued, temperatures have dropped below 10°C in 10 districts as of Tuesday.
