Weather Forecast for January 7: Heavy Cold Wave, Dense Fog, and Rainfall Alert for Three States; IMD Issues Warnings

New Delhi: The cold wave and dense fog will continue to impact northern parts of India on January 7, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for heavy cold waves and fog. The IMD has also forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in three states, while 21 cities in North India are under cold wave alerts. Kolkata recorded its coldest day of January, with temperatures dropping to 10.2°C.

Rainfall Warning for Three States

According to the IMD, heavy to moderate rainfall is expected over the next 48 hours in southern states such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Fishermen in these areas are advised to stay cautious. The rainfall is expected to lower the temperatures by 2 to 3°C in these regions. Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand had also witnessed rainfall in their higher altitudes, though the chances of further rainfall are minimal at the moment.

Cold Wave Alert for 21 Cities in North India

The IMD has issued a cold wave warning for 21 cities in North India on January 7. Cities including Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Lucknow, Raebareli, Bijnor, Agra, Tundla, and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience severe cold. Additionally, Delhi will face a hazardous cold wave, particularly in the morning hours, making travel difficult.

Forecast for Key Cities

Delhi: The IMD has issued a cold wave alert from early morning to 11 AM today, with temperatures expected to dip to 5°C. Drivers are urged to exercise caution, especially in areas like Akshardham and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.
Uttar Pradesh: The cold wave will affect Deoria, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareilly, and Amethi, with temperatures possibly dropping below 5°C. Dense fog will reduce visibility to less than 50 meters.
Bihar: In Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Siwan, Gaya, Jehanabad, Nawada, and Lakhisarai, the minimum temperature is expected to fall to 5°C. The IMD has issued a warning for dense fog in districts like Khagaria, Begusarai, Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Madhubani.
Jharkhand: A yellow alert has been issued for Palamu, Latehar, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Chatra, while the capital Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro, and Hazaribagh may experience temperatures below 5°C.

Weather in Other States

Himachal Pradesh: A yellow alert has been issued for Manali, Kangra, Solan, Bilaspur, and Kullu due to the ongoing cold wave, with temperatures in Manali possibly dropping to -20°C in the morning. The region is also expecting heavy snowfall.
Uttarakhand: The weather is expected to change, with frost expected in most areas. A cold wave will grip areas like Chamoli, Nainital, Uttarkashi, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Rudraprayag. The maximum temperature in Nainital will be 14°C, and the minimum will drop to 1°C.
Rajasthan: A cold wave alert has been issued for over 10 districts, including Churu, Hanumangarh, Alwar, Tonk, Bundi, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, and Kota. Jaipur will see a maximum temperature of 18°C and a minimum of 6°C.
Madhya Pradesh: Record-breaking cold conditions are expected in Bhopal, Khandwa, Ratlam, Sehore, Ujjain, Vidisha, and Gwalior, with temperatures likely to dip below 9°C.
