Weather Forecast for January 22, 2026: Relief from Severe Cold in Delhi-NCR, Rain Likely in Several Regions; IMD Predicts Snowfall in Hills

After days of intense cold, weather conditions across several parts of India are set to change, bringing partial relief to residents of Delhi-NCR, while rainfall and snowfall are expected in many regions, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi-NCR: Cold Wave Eases, Rain and Winds Expected

The biting cold in Delhi-NCR is gradually subsiding, offering relief to residents. However, the IMD has forecast a fresh change in weather from January 23–24, which may again lead to a dip in temperatures. On January 24, the maximum temperature is expected to remain around 20°C, while the minimum may drop to nearly 7°C.

Moderate fog is likely during the morning hours. Weather experts believe that rainfall accompanied by strong winds will help reduce pollution levels significantly in the NCR region. However, a 2–3 day spell of severe cold may follow the rainfall. The IMD has advised people to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure, and take adequate precautions against cold weather.

Punjab and Haryana Continue to Reel Under Cold Wave

Severe cold wave conditions persisted in several parts of Punjab and Haryana. Faridkot recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Punjab at 3°C, followed by Amritsar (3.3°C) and Bathinda (3.8°C). The joint capital Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 5.3°C. Cold conditions are expected to continue over the next few days.

Western Disturbance to Impact Rajasthan

A fresh western disturbance is set to influence weather conditions in Rajasthan, bringing light to moderate rainfall in parts of the state. According to the IMD, Jodhpur, Bikaner division, and the Shekhawati region may receive rainfall between January 22 and 24. Another western disturbance is likely to affect the region between January 26 and 28, raising the possibility of further showers.

Rain and Snowfall Likely in Kashmir

Weather conditions in Kashmir are also expected to change after a prolonged dry spell. The IMD has forecast rain and widespread snowfall across the region in the coming days. Light to moderate snowfall is likely in the plains, including Srinagar, while higher reaches may witness heavier snow. The changing weather may lead to disruptions in road and air traffic.

Temperatures in Major Cities (Expected)

  • Delhi: 25°C / 8°C
  • Mumbai: 31°C / 20°C
  • Kolkata: 30°C / 14°C
  • Chennai: 30°C / 20°C
  • Lucknow: 23°C / 9°C
  • Patna: 24°C / 12°C
  • Jaipur: 25°C / 12°C
  • Shimla: 15°C / 5°C
  • Chandigarh: 19°C / 6°C

IMD Advisory

The IMD has urged citizens to stay updated with local weather bulletins, exercise caution during foggy conditions, and take necessary measures to protect themselves from cold-related health risks.
