Weather Alert for February 3: IMD Warns of Rain and Storms in 9 States, Winds Up to 55 km/h

India is set to witness another spell of unstable weather over the next 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing alerts for rain and thunderstorms in nine states. At the same time, a cold wave warning has been issued for 23 districts across North India. Farmers and outdoor workers have been advised to remain cautious.

According to the IMD, strong winds of 55–60 km/h are expected to accompany the rainfall, likely leading to a drop in temperatures. Children, the elderly, and residents of hilly regions have been urged to take extra precautions. Weather experts say relief from cold conditions is unlikely before February 14.

Rain Alert in 9 States

Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. On February 3, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may experience intense showers with lightning and winds reaching 50 km/h.

Heavy rainfall is also forecast in parts of Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, northern Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. Fishermen have been warned to avoid coastal areas, while farmers have been advised to limit outdoor exposure during the storm period.

Cold Wave Warning in North India

A cold wave alert has been issued for 23 districts across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. In Uttar Pradesh, districts including Ayodhya, Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddha Nagar are expected to experience severe cold conditions. Similar warnings are in place for Gurugram, Hisar, Sonipat, Kurukshetra, and Panipat in Haryana, as well as several districts of Punjab including Amritsar and Ludhiana.

Delhi Forecast

Delhi is likely to see cloudy skies and light to moderate rain on February 3. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 21°C, while the minimum may fall to 9°C. Dense morning fog is possible in some areas, and commuters have been advised to drive carefully.

Uttar Pradesh Forecast

Rain and strong winds are expected across multiple districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Banda, Chitrakoot, and Ballia. Dense fog is likely in Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Agra, and Mathura. Lucknow’s temperature is forecast at a maximum of 22°C and a minimum of 13°C.

Bihar Forecast

No rainfall is expected in Bihar, but dense fog may persist in districts such as Gopalganj, East and West Champaran, Siwan, and Saran. Patna and surrounding regions will likely remain cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 15°C and 26°C.

Hill States on Alert

Uttarakhand is expected to receive heavy rain across districts including Nainital, Almora, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh, with temperatures dropping by 2–3°C. Himachal Pradesh may see both heavy rain and snowfall in Shimla, Kullu, Manali, and surrounding areas. In Jammu & Kashmir, several districts are under a yellow alert for rain and gusty winds, while higher reaches are already experiencing snowfall.

Other Regional Outlook

Parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to receive rainfall, potentially lowering temperatures by 2–3°C. Authorities have advised residents to monitor local weather updates and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse conditions.

Major city temperature forecasts for February 3 include:

  • Delhi: 21°C / 9°C
  • Mumbai: 29°C / 24°C
  • Kolkata: 27°C / 17°C
  • Chennai: 28°C / 24°C
  • Lucknow: 22°C / 13°C
  • Patna: 26°C / 14°C

The IMD has urged citizens to remain alert, especially in areas prone to storms, snowfall, and dense fog.
