Weather Alert 25 December 2025: Dense Fog Engulfs Delhi, UP, Uttarakhand Amid Freezing Cold

New Delhi: Northern India is experiencing severe winter chill as dense fog blankets large parts of the region, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread fog alerts, warning residents to exercise caution in low-visibility conditions.

According to the IMD, eastern Uttar Pradesh can expect dense fog until 28 December, while some areas may experience fog continuing until 31 December. Western UP, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh are also under fog alerts, with visibility expected to remain low in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi in the coming days. Night and early morning fog in Uttar Pradesh is expected to intensify on 28–29 December.

Dense Fog Across Other States

The weather department has also issued alerts for other states:

  • Bihar: Dense fog expected until 25 December.
  • Eastern Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal & Sikkim: 26 December.
  • West Bengal plains along the Ganga: 25 December.
  • Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya: 29 December.
  • Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura: 27 December.

Delhi-NCR Weather Today

In the national capital, dense fog is expected from 27 to 29 December, with very dense fog likely in early hours on 29–30 December. Maximum temperature is forecast at 21°C, while minimum temperature may drop to 7°C.

Uttar Pradesh Forecast

While temperatures have slightly risen in recent days, dense fog continues to dominate Uttar Pradesh. The next three days will see dense to very dense fog, particularly in Lucknow, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Rampur, Pilibhit, and 56 other districts. Eastern UP is also under a Cold Day alert for the next 48 hours.

Uttarakhand Forecast

In Uttarakhand, dry weather in the hills has raised temperatures slightly, but dense fog in the plains has caused a sharp drop in daytime temperatures. The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for dense fog and cold wave conditions in Dehradun and other plain areas. Low visibility and significant temperature dips are expected in Udham Singh Nagar, Haridwar, Nainital, and Pauri districts.

Residents are advised to exercise caution while traveling, especially during early morning and night hours, as dense fog can severely reduce visibility on roads and highways.
