“We Are All Together,” Says Shashi Tharoor After Meeting Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge

In a significant move amid speculations about internal differences within the Congress party, MP Shashi Tharoor met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at the Parliament on Thursday. The meeting, which lasted around half an hour, provided a platform for Tharoor to share his concerns and thoughts with the party leadership.

Speaking to the media afterward, Tharoor said, “I had a discussion with two of my party leaders—the Leader of Opposition and the Congress President. It was a very good, constructive, and positive conversation. Everything is fine, and we are all working together. What else can I say? I have always campaigned for the party; where haven’t I campaigned?”

When asked whether the discussion touched upon the Chief Minister of Kerala, Tharoor clarified, “No, that was never discussed. I have no interest in being a candidate for anything right now. I am already serving as a Member of Parliament, and my priority is to uphold the trust of my constituents in Thiruvananthapuram. My duty is to look after their interests in Parliament.”

According to sources, the meeting took place at the office of the Congress President and lasted over thirty minutes. The discussions drew attention in political circles as Tharoor had recently raised certain internal issues he wished to address with the party leadership. However, he emphasized that such matters should be resolved within the party and not in the public domain.

Earlier, on January 24, Tharoor had noted that there were some issues he needed to discuss with the party leadership. He stressed that he has never violated the party’s official stance in Parliament. “I can only say that there are certain matters I want to raise with the leadership, not on any public platform. I will go to Delhi for Parliament sessions, and I believe I will have the opportunity to present my concerns clearly and engage in a proper dialogue with the leadership,” he had said.

Tharoor also highlighted his long association with the Congress, saying, “I have been with the Congress for the past 17 years. As far as I am concerned, any mistakes that have occurred should be corrected, and they will be addressed on the proper platform.” He further mentioned that he had informed the party leadership about his inability to attend a recent party meeting due to travel commitments and clarified that some reports about him may be partly true and partly inaccurate.
