US Shows Diplomatic Double Standards: Exits India-Led Solar Alliance, Now Invites India to ‘Pax Silica’ Initiative

New Delhi: The United States has once again highlighted its diplomatic double standards. Earlier, former President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the India-led International Solar Alliance (ISA), citing it as an unnecessary international organization. Now, the US is inviting India to join its new strategic initiative, Pax Silica, aimed at securing and strengthening global technology and mineral supply chains.

What is Pax Silica?

Announced on December 12, 2025, Pax Silica focuses on critical minerals, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, AI infrastructure, logistics, and associated technologies. Key members already include Japan, South Korea, Singapore, the Netherlands, the UK, UAE, Israel, and Australia.

Modern technologies such as AI, 5G, data centers, robotics, and semiconductors rely heavily on silicon and other critical minerals, much of which is under China’s control. Pax Silica aims to reduce this dependency by strengthening supply chains with trusted partners, pooling resources, technology, and investment, and creating a secure and reliable network for emerging technologies.

Why India’s Inclusion Matters

US Ambassador Sergio Gor announced that India would join Pax Silica next month. This move will further enhance India-US cooperation in technology and supply chains and support India’s semiconductor mission, reinforcing its growing role in the global tech ecosystem.

Strategic and Supply Chain Implications

Pax Silica is a non-traditional security initiative, integrating technology, national security, and economic strength. Unlike military alliances, it focuses on joint projects, investments, and research to build a trusted technology ecosystem capable of balancing China’s increasing influence.

US Diplomatic Double Standards

India’s upcoming inclusion in Pax Silica has been termed hypocrisy by analysts, given the US recently withdrew from over 60 international organizations, including the ISA, labeling them as anti-US, wasteful, or unnecessary. This dual approach underscores the US’s selective engagement in global initiatives.

India’s participation in Pax Silica represents a strategic opportunity to cement its role in global technology supply chains while navigating the complex landscape of international alliances and rivalries.
