New Delhi: The United States Embassy and Consulates in India will remain closed from 24th to 26th December 2025, temporarily suspending routine services related to visas and passports. The closure comes in accordance with a special executive order issued by the U.S. President.
According to the Embassy, as per the executive order, federal government departments and agencies will observe these dates as holidays. During this period, regular consular services will not be available. Such closures are consistent with previous practices: former President Donald Trump had declared similar holidays for federal employees in 2018, 2019, and 2020 during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. President Joe Biden continued this practice in 2024.
The Embassy and Consulates confirmed the closure via official social media channels, stating:
“The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in India will be closed from Wednesday, 24 December 2025, through Friday, 26 December 2025, in accordance with the Presidential Executive Order closing executive departments.”
Resumption of Services
Routine services will resume on 26th December 2025. The executive order also allows heads of executive departments to determine which offices remain open due to national security, defense, or other public necessity requirements.
Citizens planning to apply for visas or passport-related services are advised to schedule their appointments accordingly and anticipate delays due to the temporary closure.
