New Delhi: An American lobbying firm, SHW Partners LLC, has revealed in publicly filed records that it assisted in strengthening diplomatic relations between India’s embassy in the U.S. and senior officials of the Trump administration. The firm’s activities, which were registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), involved organizing communications such as emails and phone calls between Indian Embassy officials and U.S. authorities, along with attempts to arrange meetings.
According to the records, the lobbying firm coordinated multiple interactions between the Indian Embassy and senior Trump administration officials, including on May 10, the day India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire. Indian Embassy officials reportedly reached out to key U.S. figures from the Trump administration on that day. However, Indian government sources state that engaging lobbying firms in the U.S. by embassies and business institutions has been an established procedure since 1950. Moreover, lobbying by foreign governments in the U.S. is a well-accepted practice under FARA.
Key Details from the Lobbying Firm’s Records
The records, filed between April and December of the previous year, detail how SHW Partners LLC facilitated several communications between the Indian Embassy and U.S. officials, including emails and phone calls. These records are now publicly available through the U.S. Department of Justice.
The lobbying firm, which works for the Indian government, is affiliated with Jason Miller, a former senior advisor to President Donald Trump. India’s embassy signed an agreement with SHW Partners LLC on April 24, 2025. Notably, Miller had previously met with President Trump and other administration officials during the same period.
One of the major focuses in these communications was organizing meetings for Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri with U.S. officials, including Vice President J.D. Vance, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and CIA Director John Rekt Life. These meetings were to discuss Operation Sindoor, a topic which was reportedly brought up during a series of phone calls between the Indian Embassy and top Trump administration officials.
Discussion on Media Coverage of Operation Sindoor
The records also highlight that, on June 23, 2025, the Indian Embassy requested four separate meetings for S. Jaishankar and senior Trump administration figures to discuss the media coverage surrounding Operation Sindoor. The requested meetings included talks with Vice President Vance, Defense Secretary Hegseth, and CIA Director Rekt Life. Additionally, there were requests for meetings involving Vikram Misri and India’s all-party delegation.
