
Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, has officially assumed his duties in the country. During his visit to Mumbai, he met with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Sanjay Malhotra to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations. The discussions included potential areas for collaboration, including the adoption of cutting-edge American technologies.
Sharing details of the meeting on X, Ambassador Gor wrote, “It was a pleasure meeting RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra. We discussed areas to strengthen collaboration, including state-of-the-art U.S. technology.”
Meeting with Tata Group Chairman
On Friday, Ambassador Gor also met with N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the Tata Group. Sharing photographs from the meeting, Gor noted, “Had a great meeting with Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekaran. This is a group with a 150-year legacy and a strong presence in the United States.”
Presenting Credentials to the President
After assuming office in New Delhi on 12 January, Ambassador Gor presented his credentials to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 14 January. He wrote on X, “Today, I presented my credentials to President Droupadi Murmu as the U.S. Ambassador to India. I am grateful for President Trump’s trust and proud to advance his administration’s priorities. Together, we will strengthen partnerships in security, trade, energy, and technology, shaping a U.S.-India partnership for the 21st century.”
Trade Talks Update
On his first day in office, Ambassador Gor also addressed the ongoing India-U.S. trade negotiations. He shared that discussions had resumed on 13 January and that the next round of talks is scheduled for Tuesday.
Gor said, “Many of you have asked about the ongoing trade talks. Both sides are actively engaged. India is the world’s largest democracy, so reaching an agreement is not easy, but we are committed to making progress. Trade is crucial for our bilateral relationship. We also continue to collaborate in other critical areas, including security, counter-terrorism, energy, technology, education, and health.”
