
New Delhi, January 26, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for heavy rainfall and storms across 13 states over the next 12 hours. Cold waves in northern India are expected to intensify the discomfort for residents. Temperatures may drop by 2–3°C in regions experiencing heavy rainfall.
States Under Severe Weather Alert
On January 27, the IMD has warned of strong rain and storms in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. Winds are expected to reach 50–60 km/h, and residents are advised to exercise caution, especially while traveling outdoors. Additionally, 23 districts in northern India are under a cold wave warning.
Northern India: Cold Wave Alerts
Districts in Uttar Pradesh including Prayagraj, Ayodhya, Kanpur, Rae Bareli, Shahjahanpur, Sitapur, Rampur, Amethi, Agra, Mathura, and Tundla are expected to experience cold waves with strong winds of 15–20 km/h in the morning. Haryana’s Gurugram, Sonipat, Panipat, and Kurukshetra will also face cold winds, while Punjab’s Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Moga, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and Faridkot will see chilly conditions and gusty winds. Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur, Sirmaur, Solan, Una, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur will also experience cold wave conditions.

- Delhi: Light to moderate rainfall expected with winds of 30–40 km/h. Maximum: 19°C, Minimum: 11°C. Rain may disrupt traffic and further lower temperatures in the coming week.
- Uttar Pradesh: Heavy rainfall and strong winds in major districts including Meerut, Saharanpur, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, and others. Maximum: 23°C, Minimum: 12°C in Lucknow.
- Bihar: Heavy rainfall likely on January 28 in districts including Shivhar, Sitamarhi, East and West Champaran, Siwan, and Gopalganj, with winds of 30–40 km/h. Maximum: 22°C, Minimum: 12°C in Patna.
- Uttarakhand: Heavy rain and storms expected in Nainital, Dehradun, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri Garhwal, Almora, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, Mussoorie, and Bageshwar. Maximum: 17°C, Minimum: 9°C in Mussoorie.
- Himachal Pradesh: Heavy rain and strong winds in Shimla, Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, and Kangra. Maximum: –4°C, Minimum: –8°C in Manali.
- Jammu & Kashmir: Heavy rainfall and winds up to 60 km/h in Jammu, Muzaffarabad, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag, Rajouri, Doda, and Udhampur. Maximum: 3°C, Minimum: –1°C in Srinagar.
- Rajasthan: Moderate to heavy rain in Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Churu, Sikar, Alwar, Dhaulpur, and Bikaner. Maximum: 22°C, Minimum: 13°C in Jaipur.
- Madhya Pradesh: Moderate to heavy rain expected in Dewas, Vidisha, Sagar, Damoh, Shajapur, Raisen, Neemuch, and Hoshangabad. Maximum: 26°C, Minimum: 16°C in Bhopal.
