New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu, in her address to the joint session of Parliament during the Budget Session 2026, lauded the bravery and valor of the Indian armed forces in “Operation Sindoor” and emphasized that the day is not far when terrorism will be completely eradicated from the country. She said that India has successfully destroyed terrorist hideouts using its own resources, sending a firm message that any attack on the nation will be met with a decisive response.
President Murmu’s Address
Quoting Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, President Murmu said, “Fear should neither be instilled in others nor should we live in fear.” She emphasized that with this fearless spirit, India can ensure its security. Highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor, she stated that the world witnessed the courage and determination of the Indian Army. “Our country, using its own resources, has dismantled terrorist bases. The government has sent a clear message that any terrorist attack on India will be met with a firm and decisive response,” she added.
Indigenous Defence and Security Strengthening
President Murmu also noted that postponing the Indus Water Treaty was part of the country’s broader strategy against terrorism and that Mission Sudarshan Chakra is being pursued to further strengthen India’s defense capabilities. She highlighted that under government policies, security forces have taken decisive action against Maoist terrorism.
Maoist Terrorism Decline
She pointed out that the challenge of Maoist terrorism has reduced from 126 districts to just eight, with only three districts remaining severely affected. Over the past year, nearly 2,000 Maoist-affiliated individuals have surrendered, restoring peace to millions of lives. President Murmu shared examples of transformation in Maoist-affected regions: in one village in Bijapur, buses arrived after 25 years, sparking celebrations, and youth participation in the Bastar Olympics has increased significantly. Former insurgents are now contributing to local communities, such as running cafes in Jagdalpur.
She emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that those who have laid down arms reintegrate into mainstream society and that the day is not far when Maoist terrorism will be completely eradicated from India.
Operation Sindoor and Defence Milestones
President Murmu reaffirmed that Operation Sindoor showcased the valor of the Indian Army to the world. She also highlighted India’s defense production milestone of over ₹1.5 lakh crore in 2025 and defense exports exceeding ₹23,000 crore. She stated that the operation strengthened global confidence in ‘Made in India’ defense platforms and underlined the government’s continuous efforts to make India self-reliant.
Highlighting women’s empowerment, she noted that the first batch of female cadets recently graduated from the National Defence Academy (NDA), calling it a significant milestone in India’s development and empowerment, with women playing a leading role in nation-building.
