New Delhi, January 7, 2026: After the recent US strike on Venezuela, speculation is growing that Iran could be the next target. Amid this, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone conversation today.
Sharing details of the discussion on social media, PM Modi said, “It was a pleasure speaking with my friend, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and I conveyed my New Year greetings to him and the people of Israel. We discussed ways to further strengthen India-Israel strategic partnership in the coming year.”
He added that the leaders exchanged views on the regional situation and reaffirmed their shared commitment to combating terrorism more effectively.
This conversation comes at a time of heightened uncertainty in global politics. Historically, the United States, under former President Donald Trump, had unprecedentedly sent commandos to Venezuela to arrest President Nicolás Maduro on charges of illegally sending drugs and arms to the US. Following the collapse of Venezuela’s fortifications, many analysts believe Iran could be Trump’s next target. Given recent clashes between Iran and Israel, coupled with US airstrikes on Iranian positions, such an action would not come as a surprise.
India and Israel have maintained strong bilateral relations over the years. Israel has consistently supported India, including supplying advanced weaponry and advocating for India’s positions in international forums such as the United Nations.
