S-400 Air Defense, Operation Sindur, and More: What to Expect at This Year’s Republic Day Parade

This year, the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi promises a spectacular display of India’s military strength, featuring a host of new attractions that will capture the nation’s attention.

S-400 Air Defense System Makes Its Debut
For the first time, the S-400 air defense system will be showcased during the parade’s tableau of the Department of Military Affairs. Air Commodore Manish Sabharwal revealed that this is the same system that successfully engaged and neutralized a Pakistani Air Force aircraft at record-long distances. The display aims to highlight India’s advanced aerial defense capabilities.

Operation Sindur Tableau Highlights Tri-Services Strength
Another major highlight will be the tableau dedicated to ‘Operation Sindur,’ which showcases the coordinated power of India’s Army, Navy, and Air Force. The tableau symbolically depicts how a BrahMos missile was launched from a Sukhoi-30 (Su-30) aircraft, successfully targeting a Pakistani airbase. According to Air Commodore Sabharwal, the display reflects the nation’s resolve and sends a clear message: unity in action ensures victory.

Parade Leadership and Participation
Major General Navraj Dhillon provided further details about the parade. Lieutenant General Bhavnish Kumar will lead the parade for the fourth consecutive time, with a total of 6,050 personnel participating. Notably, the Bhairav Battalion and Shaktimaan Regiment will join the parade for the first time, alongside the Ladakh Scouts, demonstrating India’s diverse and capable military forces.

Special Animal Contingents
In a unique addition, animals and birds will also feature in this year’s parade. For the first time, attendees will see kites (birds of prey), Zanskar ponies, and two-humped Bactrian camels participating, adding a distinctive flair to the celebrations.
