New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor recently shared a post on X (formerly Twitter) that critically examines the political strategies of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, praising it as a thoughtful and insightful analysis. The post highlights the ideological differences between Tharoor and Gandhi within the party.
The post, originally by X user Sivitas Sameer, outlines the contrasting approaches of Tharoor and Gandhi. It states, “The problem is not with either ideology itself. The issue lies in Congress’s inability to choose, integrate, or implement either effectively.” Tharoor, representing the viewpoint aligned with 1990s Congress ideals—reform-oriented, urban-influenced, and institutionally focused—acknowledged the analysis as accurate and shared it widely.
Rahul Gandhi’s Strategy Called “Devastating”
According to the post, Rahul Gandhi represents a different approach. Since 2010, Congress has tried to present itself as a rural-centric, grievance-focused party to counter the BJP. The post describes this as “a reactive but ultimately devastating shift, as reflected in election results.”
The analysis further notes a contradiction: leaders spearheading this rural-focused strategy often come from elite backgrounds. “Those leading this rural outreach, born into prominent families and lacking grassroots experience, make this performative rural politics appear unconvincing,” the post argues.
Tharoor’s Approach Praised
In contrast, the post lauds Tharoor’s approach, noting his political language, background, and resonance with his audience. His growing focus on social and digital media, especially Instagram, reflects a strong political alignment rather than ideological confusion.
Sharing the post, Tharoor wrote: “Thank you for this thoughtful analysis. There have always been multiple trends within the party, and this insight highlights a key reality of our current political landscape.”
This discussion underscores the ongoing debate within Congress about leadership style, strategy, and the party’s approach to connecting with voters across India.
