Rahul Gandhi’s Doklam Remarks Spark Uproar in Lok Sabha, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh React Sharply

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha witnessed a heated uproar on Monday after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made remarks on the Doklam standoff during discussions on the President’s address. Gandhi cited an unpublished book by former Army Chief General Manoj Naravane, claiming that Chinese tanks had approached the Indian border during the Doklam standoff, even reaching the Kailash ridge.

The remarks drew immediate objections from Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju. Rajnath Singh stated that Gandhi’s reference to an unpublished book was inappropriate, saying, “How can an unpublished work be quoted in the House?”

Rahul Gandhi defended his claim, saying his source was reliable and included quotes from General Naravane’s unpublished memoirs. However, Amit Shah countered that Gandhi’s reference had no basis in the official record of the President’s address and that members should discuss issues using verified sources.

Kiren Rijiju added that members who disregard the Speaker’s rulings violate parliamentary procedures, while SP leader Akhilesh Yadav stressed that sensitive issues related to China should be allowed to be raised by the opposition.

The controversy escalated as the Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla intervened, emphasizing adherence to procedural rules, and called in other members to restore order.
