Rahul Gandhi Slams BJP’s “Double Engine” Governments for Wrecking Lives

New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a sharp critique of the Modi government and the BJP on Friday, accusing the party’s “corrupt double engine” governments of destroying citizens’ lives across India.

Speaking on multiple issues, Rahul Gandhi said, “Corruption, abuse of power, and arrogance have spread like poison in BJP’s politics, from the top echelons down to the grassroots. The people’s lives are reduced to mere statistics, and under the guise of development, a system of exploitation is thriving.”

Questioning Political Protection
Highlighting the brutal murder of Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand, Rahul Gandhi said, “The nation was shaken by this heinous crime, yet the pressing question remains: which BJP VIP is being shielded by political power? When will the law be equal for everyone?”

He also cited the Unnao case in Uttar Pradesh, stating, “The entire country witnessed how criminals were protected due to the arrogance of power, while the victim had to pay a heavy price for justice.”

Failings Across Governance and Public Services
Rahul Gandhi raised concerns over unsafe drinking water in Indore, contaminated supplies in Gujarat, Haryana, and Delhi, and environmental degradation in Rajasthan’s Aravalli hills. He criticized how rules are often bypassed in the pursuit of private profit, leaving citizens to face dust, pollution, and disasters.

He further pointed to corruption’s direct toll on public services: “Children dying from cough syrup, newborns killed by rats in government hospitals, crumbling school roofs—these are not mere lapses; they are the deadly impact of corruption. Bridges collapse, roads sink, train accidents wipe out families, and the BJP government’s response is limited to photo-ops, tweets, and token compensation.”

A “Double Engine of Destruction”
Summing up, Rahul Gandhi said, “Modi’s double engine is running—but only for billionaires. For the common Indian, this is not a double engine of development, but a double engine of destruction, crushing lives every single day.”
