Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi created a stir in and around the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, presenting the unpublished book of former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane. Gandhi displayed the book both inside the Parliament and in the surrounding premises, repeatedly demanding that the Speaker allow him to speak in the House.
The autobiography, titled Four Stars of Destiny, has been a focal point of debate in the Lok Sabha since Monday, as the Opposition raised questions over its contents.
Banners and Protests
Congress MPs carried banners in the Lok Sabha that read, “Do what you think is appropriate,” featuring pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and General Naravane. During Opposition protests in the Well, Rahul Gandhi also stood at his seat, holding up the book. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was seen sitting alone on the front bench for the ruling side.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla responded with non-verbal gestures, emphasizing that the rules and procedures determine whether a member is allowed to speak. Speaking indirectly, Birla stated that senior leaders, despite long years in government, must respect parliamentary traditions and discipline. He cautioned that crossing decorum while protesting could undermine public faith in democracy.
Rahul Gandhi Plans to Gift the Book to PM
Referencing an excerpt from General Naravane’s book, Rahul Gandhi highlighted a moment when Chinese tanks were approaching India’s border and claimed that Prime Minister Modi had failed to fulfill his responsibilities. Gandhi said that if the Prime Minister visits the Lok Sabha, he would personally gift him the book.
Addressing claims that the book does not exist, Rahul Gandhi stated, “Here is the book. Every Indian youth should know that this book exists. This is General Naravane’s book, but I was told that I cannot quote from it.” When asked by reporters where he obtained the book and whether it would be available to the public, he replied, “You can guess where this book came from.”
