Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has strongly condemned the brutal mob killing of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh, describing the incident as a crime against humanity. She has urged the Government of India to take serious cognizance of the growing violence against religious minorities in the neighbouring country and to raise the issue firmly at the diplomatic level.
Reacting to the killing of 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, Priyanka Gandhi said that violence and murder based on religion, caste, or identity have no place in any civilized society. Expressing deep concern, she highlighted the alarming rise in attacks against Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist minorities in Bangladesh.
In a social media post on Friday evening, she stated,
“The brutal mob killing of Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das in Bangladesh is extremely disturbing. Discrimination, violence, and murder on the basis of religion or identity are crimes against humanity. Such acts cannot be tolerated in any civilized society.”
She appealed to the Indian government to formally take up the issue with the Bangladesh government and ensure the safety and security of minorities in the country.
Victim Lynched Over Alleged Blasphemy
According to Bangladeshi media reports, Dipu Chandra Das, a factory worker in Mymensingh city, was allegedly accused of blasphemy. He was reportedly beaten by a mob outside the factory, later hung from a tree, and his body was set on fire, making the incident one of the most shocking cases of communal violence in recent times.
The incident has once again drawn international attention to the vulnerability of religious minorities in Bangladesh, where sporadic incidents of mob violence have been reported in recent months.
Bangladesh Interim Government Condemns the Incident
The interim government of Bangladesh, led by Muhammad Yunus, strongly condemned the killing. In an official statement, the government said there is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh and assured that those responsible would not be spared.
Police officials confirmed that the incident occurred late Thursday night and investigations are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
Call for International Attention
Political observers believe that the incident could have diplomatic implications, as calls grow louder for India and the international community to ensure the protection of minorities in South Asian countries.
Priyanka Gandhi’s statement adds to mounting pressure on New Delhi to take a clear and proactive stand on the issue of human rights and minority safety in the region.
