PM Modi’s Israel Visit Set to Reshape Regional Equations; Pakistan and Turkey Likely to Feel the Heat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Israel at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia, including the looming threat of a possible U.S. strike on Iran. The visit, however, carries significance far beyond bilateral ties. Analysts believe it could contribute to a new regional strategic balance — one that may leave Pakistan and its close partner Turkey increasingly uneasy.

Likely Renewal of India–Israel Security Pact

During the visit, India and Israel are expected to renew and deepen their security cooperation framework. According to reports, negotiations to extend the bilateral security pact are in advanced stages and could be finalized during the Prime Minister’s trip.

India and Israel share a robust partnership in counter-terrorism, defense technology, intelligence cooperation, and homeland security. Both nations have consistently maintained a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and have strengthened defense ties over the past decade.

Strategic Coordination with the UAE

Notably, the official announcement of the Israel visit came shortly after the India visit of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. During that visit, India and the UAE signed a bilateral defense agreement.

Observers point out that strengthening defense ties with the UAE followed by the renewal of a security pact with Israel reflects a broader strategic alignment. The trilateral synergy between India, Israel, and the UAE is seen as a key pillar in shaping emerging regional dynamics.

Importance of Trilateral and Multilateral Frameworks

The geopolitical landscape of West Asia is currently marked by shifting alliances. Saudi Arabia’s growing defense cooperation with Pakistan has raised concerns in New Delhi. In this context, deeper coordination between India, Israel, and the UAE could help establish a new strategic equilibrium.

Israel and the UAE have already strengthened ties under the framework of the Abraham Accords, expanding cooperation in trade, technology, and security.

All three countries are also part of the I2U2 Group, which includes the United States and focuses on economic collaboration, clean energy, food security, and regional stability.

Additionally, they are key stakeholders in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), unveiled during the G20 Summit in New Delhi. The corridor is widely viewed as a transformative connectivity project with far-reaching geopolitical implications.

Emerging Regional Coalition

Recent remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have hinted at the emergence of a broader coalition involving India, select Arab nations, Greece, and Cyprus. Such an alignment could significantly reshape power equations across West Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean.

With Turkey pursuing assertive regional ambitions and Pakistan seeking strategic leverage in the Islamic world, the consolidation of India–Israel–UAE ties may alter traditional alignments.

Prime Minister Modi’s Israel visit, therefore, is not merely diplomatic symbolism. It represents a calculated geopolitical move aimed at strengthening India’s strategic footprint across West Asia — a development that could reverberate well beyond the region.
