PM Modi in Oman: “We Are Taking Historic Decisions Whose Impact Will Be Felt for Decades”

Muscat, Oman: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Indian community and students in Muscat, Oman, highlighting the deep-rooted ties between India and Oman and emphasizing India’s bold, decisive approach in the 21st century.

21st Century India: Bold and Decisive

PM Modi said, “21st century India takes bold and swift decisions, sets ambitious goals, and delivers results within defined timelines.” He praised the recent UNESCO recognition of Diwali as an intangible cultural heritage, calling it a global acknowledgment of India’s spirit of hope, harmony, and humanity.

Celebrating India’s Diversity and Heritage

Addressing the Indian community, Modi remarked, “Every tradition brings with it new ideas. Our diversity is the strong foundation of our culture. Wherever Indians go, they respect the local culture while keeping their own identity alive. Today, I see a ‘Mini India’ right here in Oman.”

He also spoke about India-Oman relations, noting that diplomatic ties now span 70 years, rooted in trust and strengthened over time. He highlighted that around 46,000 students study in Indian schools in Oman, reflecting the longstanding educational collaboration.

Historic Economic Partnership: CEPA

PM Modi announced the signing of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Oman, calling it a landmark decision that will shape the shared future of both countries. He said, “CEPA will give our partnership new energy and confidence, boost trade, encourage investment, and open doors across all sectors.”

India-Oman “Maitri Mahotsav”

The Prime Minister celebrated the India-Oman Friendship Festival (Maitri Mahotsav), emphasizing shared history, prosperity, and cooperation. He explained the festival acronym:

  • M – Maritime Heritage
  • A – Aspiration
  • I – Innovation
  • T – Trust and Technology
  • R – Respect
  • I – Inclusive Growth

Message to Youth

Modi encouraged young people to “dream big, learn deeply, and take bold steps.”

Strategic Dialogue with Oman Leadership

During his second visit to Oman, PM Modi met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to discuss trade, investment, energy cooperation, defense, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchange. The visit underscores the growing depth of India-Oman strategic partnership.

Upon arrival, Modi was warmly received by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, including a ceremonial guard of honor and enthusiastic cheers from hundreds of Indian expatriates waving the Indian flag.
