PM Modi Extends Shivratri and Ramadan Greetings in Kuala Lumpur, Highlights Shared India-Malaysia Heritage

New Delhi, Feb 7, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Malaysia, addressed a large Indian diaspora gathering in Kuala Lumpur, extending his greetings for Shivratri and Ramadan. He emphasized the deep cultural and historical ties between India and Malaysia, calling their heritage a shared legacy.

Speaking at the event, PM Modi said, “Last year, I could not visit Malaysia for the ASEAN Summit, but I promised my friend that I would come soon. As promised, I am here. This is my first foreign trip of 2026.”

Highlighting the vibrant Indian community in Malaysia, Modi said, “Malaysia is home to the world’s second-largest Indian-origin population. There are countless things that connect Indian and Malaysian hearts. You are the living bridge between our nations. You have connected Roti Canai with Malabar Parotta, the aroma of coconut and spices, and yes, even Teh Tarik. These flavors feel familiar whether in Kuala Lumpur or Kochi. Our understanding is deepened by the many common words shared between our languages and Malay.”

He further appreciated the warmth of the Malaysian community, saying, “Your hospitality reflects the beautiful diversity of our shared culture. I especially thank my dear friend Anwar Ibrahim for participating in this community celebration. I also appreciate his words on India-Malaysia friendship and its future prospects. Not only did he welcome me at the airport, but he also personally escorted me here. His gesture, offering not just his car but his seat, is a testament to his love and respect for India and all of you.”

PM Modi’s visit underscores the strong cultural, culinary, and linguistic bonds that unite the Indian diaspora with their homeland while reinforcing the India-Malaysia strategic and people-to-people relationship.
