PM Modi and President Droupadi Murmu Look Skyward as Indian Air Force’s Dhruv Helicopters Steal the Show

New Delhi: On the occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu hoisted the national flag at Rajpath, marking the beginning of the grand parade. The celebrations saw a spectacular aerial display by the Indian Air Force and Coast Guard, featuring the ALH Dhruv (Advanced Light Helicopter) and its advanced variant, Rudra. The helicopters captured the attention of dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior officials, with their impressive formations.

The Dhruv ALH, developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), has been serving the Indian Army, Navy, and Coast Guard for over 25 years. This indigenous, twin-engine, 5.5-ton helicopter is capable of performing a wide range of missions, including reconnaissance on the battlefield. Its advanced variant, Rudra, is specially equipped for combat and tactical operations.

The parade also featured nearly 100 cultural performers, celebrating India’s unity in diversity, under the theme “150 Years of Vande Mataram”. The main guests of the Republic Day celebrations included European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi paid homage to martyrs at the National War Memorial, alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the heads of the three defence services. The aerial display by the Dhruv and Rudra helicopters marked a striking start to India’s Republic Day celebrations, showcasing the nation’s military strength, cultural richness, and technological progress.
