India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, urged Poland to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism during a bilateral discussion with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski. Highlighting the need for international cooperation, Jaishankar stressed that no country should provide support or “fertile ground” to terrorism infrastructure in neighboring regions.
India Calls Out Selective Targeting
Jaishankar emphasized India’s consistent position on the Ukraine conflict, stating that selectively targeting India over its stance is unjust and baseless. He noted, “India will not accept any form of double standards against its national interests. We have always voiced our opinions clearly, and any attempt to selectively target us is unfair and unfounded.”
Poland Agrees on Counter-Terror Measures
Responding to Jaishankar, Sikorski expressed his full agreement with India’s stance, saying, “It was a pleasure attending the Jaipur Literature Festival, a wonderful global cultural event. I fully agree on the need to combat cross-border terrorism. Poland has also suffered from arson and terrorist attacks in the past.”
Shared Concerns on Selective Tariffs
On the issue of selective tariffs, Sikorski added, “I fully agree with your concerns. There is a real fear that selective targeting through tariffs is disrupting global trade. We hope India continues to engage with Europe. We have seen your embassies expanding across Europe, reflecting India’s serious commitment to EU relations.”
Jaishankar responded by acknowledging that selective targeting extends beyond tariffs, stating that India is ready to discuss other forms of selective pressures as well.
A Call for Global Responsibility
Through these discussions, Jaishankar reinforced India’s position that global partners must collectively reject double standards, curb the growth of terrorism infrastructure, and maintain fair and transparent trade and diplomatic practices.
