New Delhi: Infamous conman Sukesh Chandra Shekhar, currently in jail, has reportedly offered to buy the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a staggering one billion US dollars. In a letter addressed to RCB’s parent company Diageo, Sukesh, through his firm LS Holdings, claimed that the deal could be finalized within 48 hours. He also stated that the purchase would be a gift for his partner, Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandes.
A Billion-Dollar Offer
In his letter to Diageo, Sukesh Chandra Shekhar expressed LS Holdings’ interest in acquiring full ownership and operational control of RCB. The proposed deal, valued at approximately ₹8,300 crore, would be entirely in cash. According to Sukesh, the acquisition would include all franchise rights, trademarks, player contracts, and legal entitlements.
Sukesh also claimed that his offer was superior to that of Pune-based businessman Adar Poonawalla, asserting that LS Holdings could conclude the transaction without involving any third parties.
Legal Status and Company Claims
Addressing his ongoing legal issues, Sukesh wrote, “The cases filed against me are merely allegations. Nothing has been proven in any court.” He further asserted that LS Holdings has no legal disputes and is registered and operational in multiple countries.
A Personal Gesture for Jacqueline Fernandes
The conman mentioned Bollywood star Jacqueline Fernandes in his letter, noting that the RCB acquisition would be a gift for her. Previously, on 24 December, Sukesh had also written to Jacqueline, informing her of his bid to acquire RCB and expressing hope that divine blessings would ensure success. He concluded the letter by saying he missed her dearly and promised to meet her soon.
As of now, Diageo has not responded to Sukesh Chandra Shekhar’s proposal.
