New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic plane crash that claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Ajit Pawar, along with four other individuals, died in the crash near Baramati in Pune district on Wednesday morning.
Investigation Needed into the Cause of the Crash
When asked about the need for an inquiry, Kharge told reporters at the Parliament premises, “An investigation must be conducted because such an accident has occurred. Leaders and corporate officials frequently travel by air. This was a small aircraft—why this happened needs to be thoroughly examined.” Earlier, Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also called for the investigation to be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
Details of the Crash
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will investigate the crash at Baramati Airport, which involved the ‘Learjet 46’ operated by Delhi-based ‘VSR Ventures’. According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), all five people on board, including the flight crew, lost their lives in the accident.
Role of the AAIB
A senior official told PTI-Bhasha that the AAIB team will visit the crash site to conduct a detailed investigation. The bureau is responsible for classifying aviation safety incidents in Indian airspace as accidents, serious incidents, or incidents. In addition to investigating crashes, the AAIB also recommends measures to improve safety standards in civil aviation.
