New Delhi: The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, listed as a terrorist organization in Canada, has once again grabbed headlines in India. According to a report by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the gang is allegedly operating in Canada under the influence of the Indian government.
Canadian news outlet Global News claims to have accessed the confidential report, which repeatedly mentions—six times—that the Bishnoi gang maintains links with the Indian government. The report comes at a time when India-Canada relations are showing signs of improvement. In August 2025, after more than ten months of strained relations, both countries appointed ambassadors in each other’s capitals. At that time, Canadian officials had accused India of involvement in espionage and violent activities—claims repeatedly denied by India.
Gang Active Across Multiple Countries
The three-page RCMP intelligence review, which does not carry a date, tracks the growing influence of the Bishnoi gang in Canada. The report describes the gang as a violent criminal organization with an expanding presence in multiple countries, including Canada. It alleges that the Bishnoi group is using violence to further its criminal operations under the direction of the Indian government.
Escalation of Criminal Activities in Canada
According to the RCMP, the gang is involved in serious crimes including extortion, drug trafficking, financial laundering, and targeted killings. The report emphasizes that the gang’s primary motive is financial gain, not political or religious objectives. The RCMP issued the report on the same day that British Columbia Premier David Eby launched a trade mission to India (12–17 January). The report also notes a significant increase in violent activities by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Canada over the past year.
