New Delhi: The Delhi Police Special Cell has registered an FIR against Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a terrorist affiliated with the banned Sikh For Justice (SFJ) organization, for making provocative and objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of Republic Day.
Authorities stated that Pannu, who resides in the United States, had released a video claiming that ‘sleeper cells’ had put up posters in support of Khalistan in Delhi’s Rohini and Dabri areas. The video, circulated on social media, threatened to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations and included offensive slogans targeting the Prime Minister.
The FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including:
- Section 196 – Promoting enmity
- Section 197 – Prejudicial statements against national unity
- Section 152 – Acts endangering India’s sovereignty and integrity
- Section 61 – Criminal conspiracy
Threats and Rewards
Officials confirmed that Pannu also announced a reward of USD 111,000 for stopping the Prime Minister from hoisting the national flag on January 26 and for placing Khalistan flags on railway tracks in Punjab.
A senior police officer said, “The FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. All claims made in the video are being verified, and online platforms are under close surveillance.”
Heightened Security Measures
This development comes amid intelligence alerts about potential terrorist threats during the 77th Republic Day celebrations. The Delhi Police, along with paramilitary forces, have established multi-layered security perimeters across Rajpath and the entire New Delhi district.
Pannu has a history of anti-India activities. Last year, on Independence Day, he also threatened the Prime Minister, leading to earlier FIRs. The Indian government has declared him a terrorist due to his support for the Khalistan movement.
