IndiGo Flight Cancellations Cause Chaos; Parliament Raises Concern

New Delhi: The ongoing IndiGo flight cancellation crisis is causing widespread disruption across India, affecting passengers from Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Srinagar, and other major airports. Over the past two days, more than 500 flights have been canceled, leaving both travelers and lawmakers frustrated.

The issue reached the Rajya Sabha on Friday, where Congress MP Manish Tiwari raised concerns during Zero Hour. He highlighted that the cancellations are not only inconveniencing common citizens but also impacting parliamentarians’ travel plans. Many MPs had booked flights to return home over the weekend or to come back on Monday, but cancellations have disrupted these schedules.

MPs’ Travel Plans Disrupted
Tiwari pointed out that the crisis reflects the risks of a single airline’s monopoly dominating the domestic market. He urged the government to intervene and provide clarity on when normal flight operations would resume. “This is a timely issue affecting many people, and I believe all members will agree,” he said.

Government Response
In response, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju assured the House that the government is monitoring the situation closely. Rijiju informed MPs that he had consulted the Civil Aviation Minister before the session and that steps are being considered to address the technical issues facing the airline. He emphasized that the Civil Aviation Ministry would provide updates to both MPs and the public regarding the evolving situation.

The Parliament discussion underscores the growing public and political concern over IndiGo’s flight disruptions, highlighting the urgent need for remedial action to prevent further travel chaos.
