Indian Air Force to Fly ‘Sindoor’ Formation of Fighter Jets on 77th Republic Day

New Delhi: This Republic Day, the nation will witness a historic aerial display as the Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to fly its fighter jets in a ‘Sindoor’ formation during the 77th Republic Day parade. The formation will include Rafale, Sukhoi-30, MiG-29, and Jaguar fighter jets—all of which played a crucial role in Operation Sindoor, highlighting India’s strategic and tactical capabilities.

Sindoor Formation: A Tribute to Operation Sindoor

According to the News Agency NAI, the IAF jets participating in the Republic Day parade will replicate the Sindoor formation, which commemorates the successful strikes during Operation Sindoor. The formation will consist of:

  • Two Rafale jets
  • Two Sukhoi-30 jets
  • Two MiG-29 jets
  • One Jaguar fighter jet

This formation symbolizes the precision, strength, and coordination of the Indian Air Force during the operation.

Background: Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian Armed Forces on the nights of 6-7 May 2025 against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Key highlights of the operation:

  • Nine terrorist bases, including those of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, were destroyed in the initial phase.
  • In response to provocations from Pakistani forces, India conducted counter-strikes until 10 May 2025, targeting several Pakistani Army and Air Force installations.

Why Operation Sindoor Was Conducted

The operation was a direct response to the massacre at Pahalgam’s Beasarn Valley on 22 April 2025, where terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 innocent civilians, including 25 tourists and one local resident, after questioning their religion. Following this brutal attack, India decided to neutralize terrorist leadership and infrastructure in Pakistan.

Operation Sindoor is currently suspended, but it remains ready to resume whenever necessary. On 10 May 2025, the operation was paused after the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart seeking a ceasefire.

This Republic Day, the Sindoor formation will serve as a powerful reminder of India’s operational readiness, precision strikes, and the valor of its Air Force.
