Indian Air Force Deploys Mi-17V5 Helicopters in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit Valley to Battle Forest Fire

New Delhi: The dense forests of Lohit Valley in Arunachal Pradesh have been engulfed in flames, prompting immediate action from the authorities. In response to the escalating situation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched a specialized mission to combat the fire, deploying Mi-17V5 helicopters for aerial firefighting operations.

The IAF helicopters carried out the mission at an altitude of approximately 9,500 feet, where the thin Himalayan air poses a significant challenge for aviation operations. During the operation, the helicopters dropped nearly 12,000 liters of water over the affected areas, showcasing the skill, precision, and commitment of the Air Force in protecting human lives and fragile ecosystems.

IAF Shares Mission Details and Media
The Indian Air Force shared photographs and videos of the operation on its social media channels, highlighting the complexity of firefighting at such high altitudes. The posts emphasized the extraordinary coordination and courage required to execute these missions in the Himalayan terrain.

Part of a Larger IAF Emergency Initiative
This firefighting operation is part of a series of rapid-response initiatives by the IAF. In a similar action, the Air Force had earlier responded to an urgent request from the Maharashtra government after a plane crash at Baramati Airport. A dedicated IAF team, equipped with advanced technical equipment, was deployed from Air Force Station Lohegaon to assist with emergency air traffic control (ATC) services, ensuring safe and smooth management of air operations.

IAF Supports Emergency Operations After Baramati Crash
The Baramati incident tragically claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. In response, the IAF swiftly deployed personnel to provide essential ATC and meteorological services, enabling safe air operations in the aftermath of the crash.

Through these operations, the Indian Air Force continues to demonstrate its readiness and dedication in handling both environmental and emergency crises with professionalism and precision.
