New Delhi, February 16, 2026: India is charting an ambitious course in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), emphasizing inclusive and ethical AI that benefits all. The upcoming India AI Summit 2026 is expected to spotlight India’s vision for AI, garnering global attention, particularly from the Global South.
AI for All: A Vision Rooted in Inclusion
Last year, at the Paris AI Action Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi articulated the mantra “AI for All”, setting the stage for India to host the next AI summit. Drawing parallels with the G20 Summit in Delhi in 2023, where nations reached consensus on the Delhi Declaration amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India aims to use the summit as a platform for AI diplomacy and inclusive development.
Prime Minister Modi had emphasized that governance is not just about rules but about access—whether in computing power, talent, or data. Reflecting this, the 2026 AI Impact Summit is structured around seven thematic pillars that prioritize inclusive growth and the concerns of the Global South, mirroring the approach of the G20 in shaping India’s narrative.
Shifting the Focus from Safety to Human-Centric Development
Unlike previous AI summits held in the UK, Paris, or South Korea, which largely focused on safety and security, India’s summit will pivot towards human-centric AI development, emphasizing equitable access and global participation.
The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres recently noted that India is the most suitable host for this summit. By hosting the event, India seeks to position itself as an emerging technology hub and a country that brings everyone along, reinforcing its leadership role in the Global South. Experts expect that, similar to the consensus achieved on the Delhi Declaration at G20, countries will align with India’s perspective on a Global AI Vision.
Preparing for AI Diplomacy
As AI becomes increasingly tied to strategic assets such as chips and critical minerals, countries controlling these resources will gain a competitive edge in the AI ecosystem. Beyond economics, AI impacts governance, public services, and international relations, making leadership in AI essential.
India’s AI Summit aims to bridge disparities in the AI ecosystem, reinforcing its image as an unofficial leader of the Global South, while promoting equitable and responsible AI development.
