“If Justice Was in Bihar, Why Come to Delhi?”: Parents of Patna Hostel NEET Student Stage Protest at Jantar-Mantar

New Delhi: Frustrated by the lack of justice for their daughter in Bihar, the parents of a NEET aspirant who died under suspicious circumstances at a Patna hostel have reached Delhi to protest at Jantar-Mantar. The grieving parents expressed deep despair, saying they were compelled to come to the national capital because justice was not served locally. “If we had received justice in Bihar, why would we have come to Delhi?” the father emotionally asked, pledging to fight for his daughter’s rights till his last breath.

Echoing her husband, the mother said, “I want justice for my daughter. If justice had been served in Bihar, we wouldn’t have needed to come here.”

Background of the incident

The NEET student had died during treatment in Patna under suspicious circumstances. Allegations of sexual assault have surfaced, though the police stated that doctors did not confirm any sexual or penetrative attack. Last month, the parents had gathered outside the Patna hostel, claiming that hostel authorities were uncooperative and that other students were unable to resume their studies due to the incident.

Police action and investigation

So far, two police officers have been suspended in connection with the case: Station House Officer Roshni Kumari of Chitragupt Nagar Police Station and Additional SHOC Hemant Jha of Kadamkuan Police Station.

During forensic investigation, the FSL team detected traces of human sperm on the deceased student’s undergarment. A DNA profile is being prepared from this sample to match with the suspects identified by the Special Investigation Team.

The protest at Delhi’s Jantar-Mantar highlights the parents’ anguish and the urgent demand for accountability, even as the investigation continues to unravel the circumstances of the NEET student’s death.
