Goa Fire Case: India in Touch With Thailand, Moves Underway to Bring Luthra Brothers Back After They Fled to Bangkok

New Delhi, December 12, 2025: The Indian Embassy in Bangkok is actively coordinating with Thai authorities in connection with the Goa nightclub fire case. Restaurant owners Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra fled to Bangkok shortly after the tragic fire at the Birch by Romeo Lane restaurant in Margao, Goa.

Both brothers were detained by Thai authorities in Phuket following intervention by the Indian Embassy.

Thai Authorities Acting as per Local Laws
Sources at the Indian Embassy in Bangkok said on Friday that Thai officials are proceeding strictly according to local legal procedures, which include steps required for deporting the two accused back to India.

The Goa Police had earlier revealed that their plea seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail for the Luthra brothers was dismissed by the court on Thursday, despite strong opposition from the police. With the court’s decision, the chances of arresting the accused increased significantly. Based on inputs from various agencies, Goa Police confirmed that the Luthra brothers had been detained in Thailand.

Efforts to Bring the Accused Back Intensify
Goa Police stated that the formal process to bring the Luthra brothers back to India has already begun in accordance with established procedures. The police also confirmed that all 25 victims of the fire have been identified and their bodies handed over to their families.

25 Lives Lost in the Goa Nightclub Fire
The devastating fire, which broke out on Saturday night, claimed 25 lives and left six others injured. Nearly 100 people were present inside the nightclub at the time of the incident. Early investigations indicate that the fire was triggered by extensive use of highly flammable decorative materials. Authorities have also found shocking violations of fire safety regulations at the establishment.
