“Future-Ready Force”: Indian Army to Undergo Major Transformation, Army Chief Announces

New Delhi:
Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday announced that the Indian Army is evolving into a ‘Future-Ready Force’, designed not only to tackle present-day challenges but also to prepare for the wars of tomorrow. Speaking to the media on the occasion of the Army Day parade, he emphasized that the transformation focuses on creating highly trained soldiers, modernised systems, and capabilities for multi-domain operations.

Embracing Technology to Empower Soldiers

General Dwivedi clarified that technological advancements in the army are intended to enhance soldiers’ capabilities, not replace them. “Technology increases efficiency, but it cannot substitute human judgment and skill,” he said. Highlighting the importance of agility, he noted that smaller, well-coordinated units are often more effective due to their speed and flexibility.

New Organizational Structures

The army chief revealed that several new formations have been raised under this transformation, including the Bhairav Battalion, Ashni Platoon, Shakti Baan, and Divyastra Batteries. These units are designed to bridge gaps between conventional and special forces, ensuring a lean, responsive, and mission-oriented army capable of handling emerging battlefield scenarios.

Lessons from Operation Sindoor

Referring to Operation Sindoor, General Dwivedi stated that it set a new benchmark for rapid response, coordination, and precision action. The operation showcased the army as a mature, confident, and responsible force, fully capable of safeguarding national interests.

Focus on Self-Reliance

The Army Chief underscored the importance of indigenous defence capabilities. “The future requires weapons and systems that are designed and developed in India. Self-reliance is no longer just a goal; it has become a strategic necessity,” he said, pointing to the display of ‘Made in India’ equipment during the parade as evidence of progress.

Always Prepared

Reiterating India’s operational readiness, General Dwivedi stated, “The Indian Army is always fully prepared to respond to any situation. Our preparation for future wars is complete, and it will continue to strengthen in the days ahead.” He also highlighted that Jaipur was chosen for the Army Day parade due to Rajasthan’s historical significance as the land of valor and heroes.

This strategic overhaul signals a major shift in the Indian Army’s operational doctrine, combining technology, self-reliance, and tactical agility to create a force ready to meet the challenges of the 21st-century battlefield.
