New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has emphasized the critical role of India’s strategic projects in securing the nation’s assets and enhancing its defence capabilities. Speaking at the Air Force Commanders’ Conference, he highlighted that the Sudarshan Chakra project is set to play a significant role in safeguarding national assets in the coming years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced this ambitious national defence shield initiative on 15 August earlier this year.
Indigenous Jet Engine Development Becomes National Mission
Addressing senior Air Force officers, Rajnath Singh said that the development of indigenous jet engines has now become a national mission. He stressed that the government is fully committed to achieving these strategic defence goals, reflecting India’s resolve to strengthen its self-reliance in critical military technologies.
Modern Warfare Goes Beyond Weapons
The Defence Minister pointed out that modern warfare is no longer solely dependent on conventional weapons. Today, it is a battle of ideas, technology, and adaptability. Cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, UAVs, satellite-based surveillance, and space-enabled capabilities have become decisive factors that can change the battlefield dynamics.
Three Pillars of Modern Warfare
Rajnath Singh outlined three essentials for success in modern conflicts: precision-guided weapons, real-time intelligence, and data-driven decision-making. “These are no longer optional but fundamental requirements,” he said. “Nations mastering the combination of technology, strategic vision, and adaptability will lead on the global stage.”
Air Power Enhances Strategic Leadership
Referring to Operation Sindur, the Defence Minister highlighted India’s capacity to execute high-impact, short-duration missions, demonstrating how air power is decisive in modern warfare. He lauded the Indian Air Defence System, stating, “Air power gives leadership the ability to send a clear strategic message to adversaries that every measure will be taken to protect national interests.”
