First Target Achieved: INS Sudarshini Makes History Amidst Challenges in the Open Seas

New Delhi: The Indian Navy has marked another milestone as INS Sudarshini successfully completed its first port call during the Lokayan-26 expedition. On Wednesday, the naval vessel reached Salalah, Oman, as part of its ten-month inter-oceanic voyage, achieving a landmark in India’s maritime reach while strengthening bilateral naval ties with Oman.

Engagement with Omani Navy Officials

During the port visit, the Commanding Officer of INS Sudarshini held discussions with Captain Mohammed Al Ghailani, Southern Naval Area Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, and Captain Mohammed Al Mahari, Commanding Officer of the RNO Vessel Al Moajer. A guided tour of the ship was also arranged for the Omani officials.

Training Ship Open to Visitors

According to a Ministry of Defence press release, the training ship was open to visitors. More than 600 visitors, including schoolchildren, were given a glimpse of the three-masted bark and introduced to the intricacies of life at sea. INS Sudarshini is now progressing to the next phase of Lokayan-26, showcasing India’s timeless maritime legacy across the oceans.

A Journey of Over 22,000 Nautical Miles

INS Sudarshini, highlighting India’s maritime heritage and the vision of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), will cover over 22,000 nautical miles during this voyage. The ship will visit 18 foreign ports across 13 countries, while also participating in international tall-ship events such as Escale à Set in France and SAIL 250 in New York, USA.
