Every Young Indian Must Carry a Fire Within, Learn from History: NSA Ajit Doval Urges Youth to Strengthen the Nation

New Delhi: Speaking at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval appealed to India’s youth to draw inspiration from history and work toward building a stronger India. Addressing the gathering in Delhi, Doval emphasized the sacrifices of India’s forefathers, highlighting the hardships, humiliation, and losses they endured to secure the nation’s freedom.

Learning from History

Doval reminded the youth that independence was hard-won. Our ancestors faced severe oppression, endured public humiliation, and sacrificed greatly. Villages were burned, civilizations destroyed, and temples looted, yet the nation survived. “History challenges us today,” Doval said. “Every young Indian must carry a fire within. The word ‘revenge’ may not sound ideal, but it embodies a powerful resolve. We must reclaim our history and restore the country to a position where we can build a great India based on our rights, values, and beliefs.”

Vigilance Against Security Threats

Highlighting India’s ancient, advanced, and peaceful civilization, Doval stressed the importance of acknowledging security threats. Neglecting these threats in the past taught India hard lessons, and forgetting them today would be a grave misfortune for the nation.

He clarified that India never sought aggression, plunder, or destruction of others’ temples. However, the nation failed to fully understand looming dangers in time. “History has taught us a lesson—will we learn from it? Will future generations remember it?” Doval asked.

Why Nations Go to War

Addressing the question of why countries fight wars, Doval stated:

“We are not psychopaths who derive satisfaction from the sight of enemy casualties. Wars are not fought for pleasure. They are fought to break the morale of the adversary, so that they surrender according to our terms and conditions. It is the willpower of the nation that defines the purpose of war.”

He stressed that national resolve and willpower are critical in determining a country’s strength, even more than weapons and resources.

Leadership and the Role of the Youth

Doval highlighted the importance of strong leadership and preparation to face challenges. “If you are powerful but lack morale, all your weapons and resources become meaningless,” he warned.

He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, noting India’s remarkable progress over the last decade. “We are fortunate to have leadership committed to the nation’s development. Their dedication and hard work are an inspiration for all of us,” Doval said.

The Young Leaders Dialogue, running from January 10 to 12, provides a platform for youth to exchange ideas, engage with national leaders, and contribute meaningfully to India’s development.
